Soon, Praveen was seen on the sets of the iconic Malayalam film “Ennu Swantham Janaki Kuttikku.” In the credit line of that film, Praveen’s name appeared as Asst cinematographer. That was the beginning. The subsequent years were the formative years, sometimes he was seen as a focus puller, sometimes an asst cinematographer. From an awestruck spectator, Praveen transformed into a skilled artisan. He was part of Hindi serials like Seahawk, Aahat, and Rishtey Hindi movies One Two Ka Four and Shool and Malayalam movie Randam Bhavam. The journey took him to doorsteps of Sudhir Mishra, worked as an assistant director.
In 2008, Praveen ID transitioned to the world of advertising at Nirvana Films. That was another leap. Watching films, researching, writing scripts, cracking ideas, Praveen was very busy. At Nirvana, Praveen wrote and directed commercials for many of India’s leading brands, NGOs and Corporate films. One of his advertising films was nominated in the Film Craft category at the 2009 ONE Show Awards in London.
In 2018, we saw him as a Creative Director for the Malayalam film “Kammara Sambavam.”
He rubbed elbows with some of India’s most acclaimed filmmakers and technicians, including Anurag Kashyap, Prakash Verma, Sally, Thirunavakarasu, C.K. Muralidharan, Rajeev Ravi, Anand Tiwari to name a few, at times by assisting and at times making them part of his work.
He often says the script can be anything, adding emotion, believing in the power of spontaneity, doing meticulous preparation magic can be crafted. It’s hard, But he keeps a close watch and maintains a strong awareness of the industry trends and technological advancements.
He is madly inspired by the works of David Fincher and Alejandro González Iñárritu.
